According to the latest report from the Brazilian Photovoltaic Industry Association (ACCOLAR), the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaics in Brazil has exceeded 55GW (DC)

According to the latest report from the Brazilian Photovoltaic Industry Association (ACCOLAR), the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaics in Brazil has exceeded 55GW (DC), accounting for 22.2% of the country's total installed power structure. At present, photovoltaic power generation is second only to hydropower in Brazil's electricity sources, with the latter accounting for over 40%.

According to the report by TOOLAR, Brazil will add 14.97GW of DC end photovoltaic installed capacity in 2024, bringing the total installed capacity to 52.88GW, including 37.4GW of distributed photovoltaics and 17.6GW of large ground power stations. The data provided by the Brazilian National Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) further confirms this development trend. As of February 28, 2025, the installed capacity of micro and small distributed photovoltaics (MMGD) in Brazil exceeded 37.61 GW, with a total of 28.3 million systems connected to the grid, with residential systems dominating.

The ACCOLAR report states that since 2012, the photovoltaic industry has attracted over 251.1 billion Brazilian reals (approximately 43.9 billion US dollars) in investment and created over 1.6 million job opportunities. However, the photovoltaic industry in the country still faces many challenges, among which the biggest bottleneck is the issue of renewable energy rationing, which prevents companies from receiving compensation, followed by obstacles to the grid connection of small-scale photovoltaic systems. The power rationing issue in investment projects in Brazil has led to a net loss for French photovoltaic company Voltalia in 2024. Absolar also calls on the government to approve the Basic Energy Income Plan (REBE) related bill 624/2023 to update bill 14.300/2022 and address the limitations encountered by distributed systems when accessing the distribution network. In addition, the association is promoting the government to include photovoltaic technology in the A-5 new energy auction to be held in August 2025, in order to promote industry development.

Analyst Chairman Ronaldo Koloszuk pointed out that the decline in photovoltaic module prices is beneficial for the popularization of photovoltaics in the Brazilian market, but the large supply of low-priced modules by Chinese companies may be detrimental to local manufacturers.

Recently, the Brazilian State Grid Interconnection (SIN) announced that the country's photovoltaic power generation set a new record at 11:00 on March 14, 2025, reaching 37.869 GW per hour, accounting for 39% of the national electricity load at that time.
